Car Theft Duo Charged With 154 Federal Crimes: Northbrook P.D. Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

RETAIL THEFT

Patrick F. Herron, of Des Plaines, had a warrant out of Naperville for retail theft, and was arrested at 10:15 p.m. July 20, in the 1400 block of Landwehr Road. It was alleged that Herron took an electric bicycle for a test drive at a local retail store in Northbrook. Herron never returned the bicycle and provided a fake name on the paperwork for the test drive. The court date is set for Aug. 7.

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

Valentin Vremere, of Des Plaines, is accused of having an expired registration, suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 11:13 p.m. July 24 at Landweher and Techny roads. A court date of Sept. 2 was assigned.

THEFT FROM VEHICLES

Octavio A. Goytia and Pedro Mendoza, both of Aurora, are accused of theft, burglary, possession of stolen vehicle essential parts, and were arrested at 11:56 a.m. July 25, in the 3100 block of Doolittle Drive. Police collaborated with multiple regional and federal law enforcement agencies regarding catalytic converter thefts from December 2021. The pair were identified as being part of several crimes throughout the area, including Northbrook. Goytia was charged with 79 federal crimes and Villegas-Mendoza was charged with 75 federal crimes. A court date had not been set at the time of the report.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A resident in the 3300 block of Highland Road reported at 9:12 p.m. July 20, she heard at least two subjects enter her house and walk around while she was in her bedroom. The subjects ran out of the house before she could see who they were. The first arriving officers found the rear door had been forced open. The kitchen and bedroom drawers had all been pulled open by the subjects.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

A resident in the 1900 block of Oak Avenue reported at 10:08 p.m. July 23, someone ran up to her door and banged on the glass portion of it. The subject broke the glass and ran away.

STOLEN VEHICLE

A resident in the 3500 block of Bayberry Drive reported at 1:23 p.m. July 24, he had parked his 2012 black Ford F150 in the driveway, The next morning, he noticed that someone had stolen it. The complainant said he always left the doors unlocked, with the key inside.

THEFT

A citizen called police at 1:11 p.m. July 25, to report someone had broken into his locker at a fitness facility in the 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard and stole three of his credit cards. One of the credit cards was used to fraudulently purchase over $11,000 of computer equipment at a local computer store.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Brentwood Road resident reported at 6:20 a.m. July 27, someone opened two credit cards at retail stores in his name without his knowledge or permission. The stores were contacted and the credit cards were canceled.
